UPDATE ON MUM

Friday 8 February 2008. Mum is in Ward 7 of Furness General Hospital suffering from heart failure, kidney failure, heart block and a chest infection which may be pneumonia.  The consultant said that she will be treated as if she was a young person but …. and here he shrugged his shoulders.

Mum herself is on oxygen and is more comfortable in her still laboured breathing.  Her mind is also wide awake although she is physically very tired.

Google informs me that heart block is a type of bradycardia (slow heart rate, usually less than 60 beats per minute) that occurs when the beat that originates in the upper chambers of the heart is unable to pass normally to the lower chambers of the heart.

Will keep you in touch,

Love to all,

Ted.

Little mum is in hospital again

Friday 8 February 2008.   Little mum is being admitted to Furness General hospital again.

The night before last her breathing worsened, probably as the result of fluid collecting in her lungs due to a worsening of her heart failure.  She spent a very uncomfortable day yesterday and last evening had an hour in a fairly distressed condition before her breathing finally settled down.  She spent a restless night and this morning the struggle to breathe was again acute.

Her doctor was sent for who after examining her decided to have her admitted to hospital.  This in spite of mum’s previous determination not to go to hospital again following her discharge last February with C difficile.

I am about to travel to Barrow to catch to with her in A&E and will update the blog later to let you know what is going on.

Love to all,

Ted.
