A breath of Spring

blog-spring-daffodils-at-baystone-bank.jpg

Friday 14th March 2008.  Hi families.

I had a trip out to Baystone Bank this morning. I was greeted by one of the farm staff who asked if I was fishing while I still had chance. When I enquired about what he had said he told me that the water authority was planning to drain and fill in the reservoir next year. Well, that was a sad start to my trip but then I didn’t catch any fish either, although a bloke across the reservoir was pulling them out as if there was no tomorrow. So eventually I consoled myself with a walk around the reservoir perimeter and had a lovely time.

There were masses of wild primroses growing along the bank of the Baystone beck and “hosts” of wild daffodils were everywhere. The air was filled with bird-song, the sun was shining and it was truly lovely. What a wonderful time of year this is with everything “coming to life again”. I realised that I hadn’t been able to enjoy the countryside in such a leisurely fashion for ages. It was a really beautiful experience. And then home for a salmon steak for lunch instead of a trout.

So here is a picture of some of the daffodils. I hope they are a blessing to you as they were to me

Love to all

Ted

PS. In retrospect I wonder now whether the water authority would really cart a reservoir’s worth of soil etc half way up a small mountain along unmade farm roads just to fill in the reservoir when there are literally dozens of open lakes many times larger than the reservoir all over the county which are left full of water and fish without any trouble at all. It would be lunacy to do so ……… but then, sadly, in this day and age and country I suppose that makes it more likely that they will do just that!
