Happy days!

Greetings families,

Lovely to hear from Andrew and Richard.  Grace and I did that Egypt trip some years ago Richard.  What an experience, eh? Unforgettable! And Andrew - have you been shopping in Works too? Your joke has a certain ring to it!  Mmmmm….. !

Now then - you may remember my post on 10 January 2009 - seems ages longer than that- when I mentioned that United Utilities were filling in my favourite trout fishing hole, and that I had been compelled to transfer my affection to Hodbarrow Lagoon.  Since than I have visited the Lagoon only twice to fish - well it was winter and very cold -  and have managed to catch NOTHING!  But, as was the case with Baystone Bank - now being filled in - the catching of fish can assume secondary importance when one is faced with the beauty in these places.

My last visit to the lagoon was on a very windy morning which made fly-fishing impossible from my usual place.  So I got on my bike and pedalled around the lagoon to find a more sheltered place.  I did, and how beautiful it was - absolutely wild and almost unvisited, the ground covered with flowering wild strawberries and the sea-wall area an amazing display of brilliant yellow from the gorse bushes and broom - and no wind! The sun was shining and I spent a glorious hour or so just sitting by the water enjoying the colours and the fragrance of the gorse flowers. It felt like being in heaven.  And I remembered many years ago walking along the top of the sea-wall with little mum on one of our adventurous outings.

Anyway, it was so nice that I determined to go back home, eat my slow-cooking meal, and then come back out to fish the afternoon away - which I did. No fish - but a really lovely day.

Finally, now, a question. Why is it that the word “big” is smaller than the word “little”, while the words “small” and “large” are the same size?

Much love to you all,

Ted.
